Kazakhstan Tests Biometric ID Checks in the Gambling Sector

Kazakhstan has introduced a new pilot program that integrates biometric identification and AI tools into the gambling industry, marking a major step toward enhanced transparency and responsible gaming.

The initiative, developed jointly by the Ministry of Tourism and Sports and Biometric.Vision, was first presented at the Digital Bridge International Forum. It uses facial recognition and real-time data analysis to verify player identities, detect underage participation, and prevent fraudulent activity across licensed casinos and betting platforms.

Officials emphasized that the system will also identify self-excluded players and monitor suspicious behavioral patterns, further supporting safer gambling standards.

Baurzhan Rapikov, from the Ministry of Tourism and Sports, stated:
“This project represents a new milestone in our digital transformation. The use of biometrics will ensure greater transparency, social responsibility, and protection for citizens.”

For gambling operators, this pilot could signal a new compliance standard in Kazakhstan. If successful, biometric verification may become mandatory across both online and land-based venues, reshaping KYC and AML frameworks.

Industry experts see this as part of Kazakhstan’s broader digital identity strategy, aligning gambling oversight with the country’s goals for transparency, data protection, and social governance.

Alibek Narimbaev, CEO of Biometric.Vision, added:
“Biometric and AI technologies can solve real social challenges. This solution provides real-time verification, minimizing risks and ensuring fair play in the gambling ecosystem.”

If adopted nationwide, Kazakhstan’s biometric model could set an example for neighboring markets exploring advanced player verification methods in regulated iGaming sectors.
